Harborfields High School’s robotics team won several awards at the Long Island FIRST Tech Challenge Qualifier Tournament, held on Feb. 3 at Locust Valley High School.

The Hydrofluoric Robotics senior team consisting of Joe Costa, McKenzie Coleman, Jack Gilfedder and Emily Prieto were honored with a Motivate Award, Innovate Award, Think Award, Connect Award and a first-place finish in the prestigious Inspire Award, which goes to the top overall team in both the functioning of their robot as well as their teamwork and positive outreach to their community. This last prize qualified Harborfields to move on to compete in the FIRST Tech Challenge Long Island Championships on March 3.

“The panel of judges is made up of industry experts in the science and engineering field, and our team really impressed them,” said Mike Pinto, who coaches the team with Linda Scarth.
